BN contesting in all 71 seats, 20 are new faces

SARAWAK Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will defend his Balingian seat in the 10th state election.
Taib, 74, who has has been Sarawak Chief Minister for three decades is also Sarawak BN chairman and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president.
The other three leaders of the component parties of Sarawak BN have confirmed they will be defending their respective seats. Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam will defend his Piasau seat; Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president, Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom, his Pakan seat and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president, Datuk Seri Dr James Jemut Masing his Baleh seat.
Of all the BN candidates announced today, 20 are fresh faces, or the equivalent of 10 from PBB, seven from SUPP, two from PRS and one from SPDP. Four candidates are women.
BN, however, has yet to name its candidate for Ba’kelalan.
Based on today’s announcement, PBB will be contesting 45 seats, SUPP 19, PRS 9 and SPDP 8.
The BN candidates were announced by PBB Senior Deputy President Datuk Sri Adenan satem who is also the Advisor in The Chief Minister Department after a BN Sarawak meeting this afternoon.
Nomination day is April 6 while polling is scheduled for April 16.
The line-up showed that the incumbent for Pelagus constituency Larry Sng was not renominated.
