The
augural beauty contest ‘Dayung Sangon Biperoh 2013’ organised by the Biperoh
Association Kuching (BAK) is now open for entry.
BAK’s
president Dr Benedict Poris said the winner of Dayung Sangon Biperoh 2013
will receive RM1,500 cash prize, a trophy and hamper while the first runner-up
will pocket RM1,000.00, trophy and hamper.
“Third
placing will walk away with RM700.00 cash prize, a trophy and hamper and there
are seven consolation prizes of RM100 cash each plus hampers,” said Poris.
Poris said to
enter the contest participants must be a Biperoh (either the father or mother a
Biperoh or both parents are Biperoh), unmarried single lady, age between 17 to
25 year-old, able to communicate in Bidayuh, Malay or English.
He said all contestants
must wear authentic Bidayuh traditional costumes during the contest but the
contestants are to provide their own costumes.
Poris said
the organiser will not provide any transport, air ticket or accommodation for
outstation participants.
The
preliminary round will be held on April 28 (time and place will be informed
later) and the grand final will be held on May 4 at Wei Thien Restaurant in
Siburan.
All 10
finalists must attend the rehearsal on May 1 and the contest proper on May 4.
Entry forms
can be obtained from village chiefs of the nine Biperoh villages (Kampung Semadang, Kampung Garung, Kampung Karu, Kampung Emperoh Jambu, Kampung Giam Lama, Kampung Giam Baru, Kampung Git, Kampung Grait and Kampung Sibetung.
“Interested
participants can also register by email, enclosing your most recent close-up
photo, national identity card name and number, date of birth and telephone
contact and email to maasaevent@gmail.com,” said Benedict.
Participants
can submit their entry forms to their respective village chief or email to
maasaevent@gmail.com not later than 26 April 2013.

dinner and the beauty contest is held to celebrate the Gawai Dayak 2013, to
promote the Biperoh culture and costumes as well as to foster friendships,”
