PKR’s
aspiring candidate for Mambong constituency Willie Mongin said it was definite
he will be contesting the seat under PKR’s ticket.
“I will be
at the nomination centre to submit my nomination paper on the nomination day,”
he assured the voters in Mambong.

He was responding
to Baru Bian’s statement following the party’s de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar
Ibrahim that the party will contest in five constituencies in Sarawak.
Willie explained
that the five seats - Limbang, Batang Lupar, Saratok, Baram and Hulu Rajang - as
announced by Baru are the first batch and more to be announced soon.
He said
these are also seats which have no overlapping claims between PKR, DAP and Pas.
“As for the
Mambong seat I will definitely be the candidate as told by the party’s leaders
and I have been going down to the ground to meet the voters to made known my
candidacy,” said Willie, adding that even before the demise of the late Peter
Ato in a helicopter’s crash last year he has always accompanied the latter
during his visits to meet the people on the ground.
“The late
Peter was my good friend and I was helping him at that time but after his
demise the party leaders has asked me to continue moving and has assured me the
seat,” he said.
On his
preparation and chances in the coming general election, Willie who contested in
Bengoh constituency in the last state election under PKR’s ticket but lost to
Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Jerip Susil, said he have better chances
this time around based on the good response on the ground.
Willie said
his campaigns was a low profile compare to the BN incumbent Datuk Seri Dr James
Dawos, who he said were doing big shows all around the constituency.
“He (Dawos) is
having big shows in the constituency and bringing in expensive artists from
Peninsula Malaysia to perform.
“That kind
of hard earned government fund should be put on better purpose to benefit the
constituents,” he added.
He said in
Mambong constituency there are still a lot which need to be done for the people
who he regarded as still far being left behind in term of economic development.
“The big
number of BRIM recipients in the constituency showed that the economic level of
the people there are not up to the mark,” he added.
Willie
further said he is trying his best to canvass for supports from the voters,
urging them to give him the chance to become their representative in Parliament.
He also
urged the voters in Sarawak to give Pakatan Rakyat (PR) the chance to form the
government so that the new government could provide better economic development
to the people.
“BN has always
said the opposition (RK) cannot provide development to the people if its rule
the country but how do they (rakyat) know the taste of the apple if they never
bite the apple,” he added.
