“I am happy to report the increasing number of academically qualified Dayak had joined the party and they are all supporting the party’s struggle,” said SNAP Secretary General Stanley Jungol.
He said those Dayak intellectuals has realised that the community are being marginalized by the present government and they wanted to put a stop on it.
“When Snap help to form the next coalition government we will put a stop to it, we do not want to see the Dayak being marginalized anymore,” he added.
Stanley said he was also very pleased to notice that more Dayak intellectuals are joining in their struggle to put a stop on the marginalization of the dayak by the present state government.
“Their determination to support SNAP had made the party leadership very confident that the party could repeat it past achievement of winning 18 seats,” said Stanley.
The record was set in the 1974 state election and at that time SNAP was in the opposition.
“In fact we are working very hard to even break the record. If sNAP can do it when it was in the opposition in 1974, there shouldn’t be any problem for us to break the record in the coming election,” said Stanley.
“In our effort to win as many seats as possible, we have appointed Liason Officers in Peninsula Malaysia especially in Kuala Lumpur and Johore.
“Their roles are to communicate with thousands of Dayak working in Peninsula Malaysia to support Snap in the coming election.
“If they are unable to come home to vote due to the high cost of travelling they are required to play their part by advising their parents to vote for SNAP.
He said SNAP is looking at a minimum of 28 seats, which are Dayak majority seats.
Asked on the Engkilili seat won by Snap candidate Dr Jonical Rayong in the last state election, Stanley said Snap will definitely put its candidate to defend the seat.
“The party members and supporters who voted for SNAP in the last state election were very angry with Rayong and they wanted the party to wrest back the seat from Rayong,” he said.
In the last election Rayong won the seat under SNAP
’s banner with 454 votes majority defeating BN-SUPP candidate Jonathan Krai.
Rayong however left SNAP to become partyless assemblyman before he was accepted into the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
Stanley said the candidate in Englkili this time around is a very qualified local person.
“We have checked his background and we are satisfied that he wouldn’t jump after winning the seat,” said Stanley.
Engkili has a total of 9,253 votes with 85 percent are Iban voters.
To another question Stanley said negotiation on seat’s allocation with DAP is still on, saying that there will be no overlapping of candidate between the two parties.
Stanley also said nobody should zero the possibility of one or two BN component parties might decide to join the coalition government form by the opposition.
